Thomas meets MarkThomas sat down at one of the desks in the back of the classroom. Even though it was warm outside Thomas was wearing a sweater. His father had grabbed him the other day after his mother had slapped him for talking back to her, so he had a bruise on his arm. As the classroom got filled with other kids Thomas just looked down. Thomas and his troubles with schoolIt was a Monday, close to the finals, Mark noticed Thomas came to class in his work clothes. He hadn’t even sat down before the homeroom teacher told him to go to the Student Guidance Office.“Thomas, we have to talk about your school work” she said as Thomas sat down.“You’re late with your assignments, you’re not doing your homework, you’re falling asleep in class, your grades are going down” she continued and Thomas looked away.“As it is now, you are not graduating this year” she said and Thomas glared at her.“What?” he said startled by the thought of not graduating.“I’m sorry Thomas, but that’s the truth. With your grades and the lack of attention and homework, you’re not getting your diploma and you’re not graduating” she said. Thomas was speechless. He was trying as best he could. Finally he sighed and looked away.“I understand” he said and left the office.
